NOW BACK TO OUR REGULARLY SCHEDULED PROGRAMS
January 4th, 2026! (just had to get that out of the way)
Did you know It turns out the word "resolution" entered English from Latin in the late 14th century, originally defined as the "process of reducing things into simpler forms". How cool is that? But England and its colonies didn't start treating the joy of simplicity day as the new year until they adopted the Gregorian calendar in 1752. Up to that point we thank the ancient Babylonians who are said to be the first resolution setters in 2,000 BC as they made promises to their pagan gods in hopes of bestowing favor in the new year. This tradition called "Akitu" was a 12 day festival revolving around the spring harvest sometime in March.
We anti-simplifie-philes living in our modernistic, complicated, tech coated world joined the Gregorians, forgot about the gods and focused more on our bank account, weight loss goals, and personal affirmations for resolutions like punks. Let's get back to our roots.
Keep it simpler. I feel like, even if we just play a bit more ball and nothing else, in theory, all our resolutions will begin to fulfill. Therefore, here at Swish we will be playing the role of ancient Babylonian god and bestow some quality basketball experience for all your 2026 new year's promises to flower into fulfillment!
