WEEK 6 IN THE BOOKS

Happy weekend Swish Hoopers! Hope you're enjoying this beautiful fall weather and getting some shots up outside while you can, nothing's better! Sorry to the 35 Over League for the last minute cancellation of games but we felt it better to have a full slate of hoop after the holidays to tune up before the tourney. Thanks for understanding.

Aside from that it was another superb week of basketball action starting Monday with our new Open Gym time. We are thrilled that so many are coming out and getting numbers to play 5 on 5 pick up. Let's continue honoring this roots of hoop culture with communtiy based, call your own fouls, who's got next tradition. With that said, we will be implementing rules to create fair, fun, pick up games where everyone is involved:

5 on 5 Rules

Shoot for teams (all shoot for's are at top of key 3 point line)

Scoring is 2's and 3's to 21 win by 2 cap 30, 1st and last game of night to 25

If there are between 11-19 ballers, those sitting play next based on sign up board and if there's less than 5 on next losing team shoots to play (no choosing players from losing team)

If there are 20 or more ballers the winning team sits after 2 wins in a row and 2 new teams play

Call your own fouls, defensive player involved shoots for it to settle any dispute

No unsportsmanlike conduct, you fight, you're gone, for good

Don't be nit-picky little bitches, it's pick up, so back court, out of bounds, and ball handling violations are loose at best, again, just shoot for it

No charges, no blocks

Have fun, it's a great game we get to play, don't mess it up by being too serious, leave your crap outside the gym

No smoking in the gym or parking lot, Santa Fe Public Schools are very strict on this and have cameras, they will shut us down if they catch anyone vaping or smoking (go in your car)

Clean up after yourselves and the gym, we're not your maids, be kind humans, thank you

With that said, The League Play was popping off again with six big games.

Tuesday night started with a wild one point victory, 63-62 for Killer Bz (3-0) over Silent Storm. Antonio Lovato paced the way with 17pts but it was young Killer B Isaiah "Slim" Fairchild providing the spark and difference down the stretch with an emphatic 16pts 8rebs 5 dimes. Tough loss for the now (1-2) Storm.

The 7 o'clock game went crazy with Santa Fe Style (3-0) besting Blakes Lotta Buckets(3-2) 84-77. The inside/out combo of Cody Garcia 30pts 13rebs 5 dimes 3 thefts and Chano Herrera 36pts 12rebs continued to be unbeatable even with newcomer Jermaine Wilkin's pouring in 33pts (23 second half) and Isaac Shanley muscling his way to 24pts 9rebs 6 dimes 3 thefts and a Mutumbo!

To cap the night Lethal Injection (1-2) got off the schneid with a 81-75 win over Dad Bods (0-3). Alex Gutierrez lit it up with 31 pts 9 rebs but the engine was Greg Trujillo with 18pts 11 dimes and D-fence! Shout out Dad Bod's Jeremiah "Reezy" Jacquez with a solid 20pt 15reb 5 dime effort in defeat.

In the Wednesday night Rec Division, IPS (1-2) handled Zia Elite (0-3) 62-52 in the first game of the night. Again, we saw the tough play of Alex Gutierrez 15pts 10rebs pace the winners and out duel Chava Chacon's 18pts.

Dad Bods (1-2) recorded another loss at the hands of some brilliant team play by Medium Kings (1-3) 77-63. Adan Lopez was smooth as silk all night dropping 27pts 9rebs 2 dimes 2 thefts and 505 Unit's Adrian Saavedra filling in and filling up the stat sheet for short handed Kings 14pts 7rebs 4 dimes 3 thefts. Another 20pt 8reb night for Jeremiah Jacquez wasn't "Reezy" enough this time.

And in the highly anticipated 8 o'clock match up 505 Unit (5-0) put the locks on Flash Flood (2-1), holding the powerful defending champs to 17 first half points and dominating a "wasn't as close as the score shows" 73-59 shalacking with high flyer Angel Parra soaring to a 28pt 9reb 4 dime 5 theft performance in blow out minutes. Big men, Brandon Encinias and Steven Lovato were tough with 19pts 11reb and 14pts 9rebs respectively.
